     FROM LOCAL GROUND — A few visitors browse late Friday afternoon at the Riverside Public Market in Presque Isle, including Patty LeBlanc of Presque Isle, second from left, and her nice, Kelly of Worcester, Massachusetts, left, who check out what Bridgewater’s Hidden Meadow Farms has for sale. The market is open Fridays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-5 p.m., and features local produce as well as baked goods and craft items.

‘Speed of light’ run marks New Horizons’ Pluto study

    PRESQUE ISLE — On July 15, northern Maine will host the fastest run ever performed by humans: at “light speed” along the Maine Solar System Model. The run is being held in honor of the NASA New Horizons spacecraft which, after a nine-year voyage, will fly past and study Pluto in mid-July during the close encounter.
