Bennett on short list for Brunswick town manager job

    PRESQUE ISLE — The Star City could be searching for a new city manager, following word that Jim Bennett, who’s held the job since 2010, is one of two finalists for the same position in Brunswick — that’s according to a statement from the Brunswick Town Council.

Local couple presents major gift to university

    Gauvins’ Gift — Ray and Sandy Gauvin, of Mapleton, have given the University of Maine at Presque Isle the gift of 75 acres of land and the buildings on it to support UMPI in its efforts to renovate the auditorium in Wieden Hall. The donated property is located in Mapleton.

UMPI, Chinese school establish transnational college

    COLLABORATION — Yanbo Zhou, chairman of the Siyuan University board, of China, and UMPI President Linda Schott shake hands after signing an agreement on Aug. 12 to establish a transnational college in China. The joint college, expected to be in place by fall 2015, will offer degrees in business, education, and environmental studies. Graduates from this college will receive degrees from both UMPI and Siyuan. The new agreement expands upon the collaborative efforts between the two institutions, which have maintained a formal relationship since 2009.

Chinese youth excited to attend PIHS

    VISITING STUDENTS — Six Chinese students are attending Presque Isle High School this school year as part of SAD 1’s initiative to attract foreign students. Three of the recruits were guests at last Wednesday night’s board meeting. Introducing themselves to the directors are, from left: Layla Zhan, Chloe Ru and Christina Qiu. Today is the first day of school at PIHS.
