    FAMILY MEMBERS of Abigail Ladner, who passed away last November as the result of injuries she sustained from an automobile accident, recently presented the first basket of Abby’s Angel Bags to members of the emergency department and Critical Care Transport teams at TAMC. Pictured with the care and comfort bags are, from left: Kennedy Jarvis, Stacey Ladner, Troy Ladner, Connie Jarvis, Georgina Schiff, manager of the emergency department; DJ Spooner, supervisor of Crown Critical Care Transport; Dr. Peter Goth, medical director of emergency care; and Daryl Boucher, director of emergency and critical care services.

Little Free Libraries come to Presque Isle

    EMILY SHAW, 21, of Presque Isle, leaves a book at the Little Free Library found at the William V. Haskell Community Center in Presque Isle. The city recently received a $1,000 grant from the Maine Humanities Council that allowed for the purchase of three free-standing structures that will help promote reading and literacy in the community by providing free books 24/7. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to “take a book, leave a book.”

Police, educators learn to interact with autistic citizens

    MATT BROWN, a U.S. probation officer and autism information specialist with the Autism Society of Maine — whose teenage son is on the autism spectrum — served as instructor at a safety training session held at UMPI June 26. He’s the founder of the Law Enforcement Program and has been educating first responders about autism for over 10 years. Brown educates all police cadets at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy about how to appropriately interact with individuals with autism.
