     LANDING AT DUSK — The 11th annual Crown of Maine Balloon Fest was held Aug. 21-24 in Presque Isle. The setting sun Saturday evening made for a beautiful backdrop as these two balloons, Spellbound Spirit II, left, piloted by Randy Lee of Benson, N.C., and Skybox, flown by Joe Shevenell of Cape Elizabeth, prepare to touch down in a field on the Centerline Road.

School budget behind mil rate increase

    PRESQUE ISLE — Residents will see a slight increase in their tax bill, following City Council’s approval at Monday’s meeting of the final 2014 budget, which includes a 72 cents per $1,000 in valuation that was a result of this year’s increase of about $300,000 to the SAD 1 school budget.

    MAKE DONATION — Lacey Jandreau, 10, and her brother, Dawson Jandreau, 6, of Portage, donated $105 they raised selling golf balls, whoopie pies and lemonade during Portage’s recent Whoopie Pie Festival, to Maine’s Save the Bear Hunt fund-raising dinner at the Northeastland Hotel Aug. 23.
